Text of Branch-Gilby campaign mailer, August 25 2008
[Citations added in italics]

Donna Branch-Gilby stands for a Pima County Government that is
OPEN, ACCOUNTABLE and FAIR.

OPEN
• I support public access to election records.
• I will meet with constituents, and return your calls!

ACCOUNTABLE
• I support using bond money promptly on the urgent projects for which YOU voted,
thus keeping the costs down and completing them on time.
• I will bring back YOUR voice in government by staffing citizen watchdog committees
and making intelligent decisions about YOUR community by holding
frequent study sessions.

FAIR
• I support smart, science-based choices about development.
• I support growing within - not beyond - our water supply.
• I support choices which are guided by YOUR future needs, rather than by greed.
• Choices for which your grandchildren, and mine, will thank us!

“I AM A DEMOCRAT WHO WALKS HER TALK” SAYS DONNA.

“I pledge that I will make decisions for the public good, because I will never forget that
I am accountable to YOU, the public!”

Where does your current Supervisor stand?
OPEN?

• Supervisor Bronson blocked public access to election records,
causing your taxpayer dollars to be wasted on a year-long legal battle.*
[Tucson Weekly article August 28 2008]

ACCOUNTABLE?
• Delays in spending bond money have raised the costs so that many projects are
delayed or never built.* [Scott Egan memo to County Administrator, p.4; Arizona Daily Star article August 3 2008]
• During her 12 years in office she has failed to fill many of her appointments to
citizen watchdog committees.* [Most notably the Budget Review Committee and Election Integrity Commission]
As Chair she only held THREE study sessions.*
[10/22/2002, 4/27/2004, 2/22/2005: from BOS minutes. Arizona Daily Star article August 25 2008]

She has muffled your voice in government and allowed County Administration to
take the reins.

FAIR?
• 30% of her campaign funding has come from the growth industry
[Arizona Daily Star article July 1 2008]
• Mega-developer Donald Diamond has raised money for her.
New York Times (p.1, April 22, 2008*) reports:
“Mr. Diamond . . . . .is candid about his expectations as a fund-raiser. ‘I want my money back, for Christ's sake. Do you know how many cocktail parties I have to go to?’ And later in the article:“‘To reciprocate, if you need any zoning in the county, let me know,’ Mr. Diamond wrote.”
• Your current Supervisor has voted “yes” to up-zone over 8000 acres* - often against the recommendation of County Staff and the Planning and ZoningCommission.
[data compiled from Pima County BOS agendas and minutes, 2003-2007]

YOUR CURRENT SUPERVISOR IS A DEMOCRAT IN NAME ONLY.

Isn’t it time for a change?
